The Cut of Us (2025)
Drawing on a light-hearted vernacular phrase, ‘The Cut of Us’ explores who we are and how we show ourselves to the world. This mixed media work explores and plays with ideas of identity in both its sense of meaning and in the way the work is made. Using a considered process, silhouette portraits of the art-makers are configured to reflect elements of personal and shared identity.
This collaborative project, co-created with art-makers from That's Life community, merges traditional and digital techniques; shadow photography, laser-cut wooden silhouette forms embedded in graphite coated plaster bases, gestural paintings cut into strips and woven into a collective work, and digitally layered images connecting silhouette portraits of the art-makers with locations and activities that hold meaning for them.
This work was exhibited in the Ballybane Library as part of the Eastside Arts Festival.
